new spring menu

someone said ' you are looking happier everytime I see you'
well, what a compliment! but how could you not be happy with this beautiful spring weather.
like removing a layer or two of your clothing according to the climate, you'll need to adjust your eating habits. I have noticed my body more accepting more yin properties, like a bit more fruits, sour tasting food etc. However still be careful not to overdo it. The change of the seasons like this is when you really need to slow down and take care of yourself.

my little girl's birthday party

my daughter's 5th birthday party!
I made this chocolate strawberry short cake. Lucky she was born in spring and i can get these sweet organic strawberries for her birthday cakes. strawberries are one of the 10 most pesticide-ridden produce so i make sure they are organic when i get them.
The chocolate sauce and sliced strawberries are sandwiched between the two moist chocolate sponges with added tofu.
The sauce is made with soy milk, kuzu, agar agar, sweetened with rice and maple syrup.
chocolate is still very yin. so even though this is so much more kind to your body compare to sugar filled dairy chocolate cake, be sensible!!! well my daughter wasn't listening to my advise....
we also had fairy oatmeal buscuits, kanten jellies and raisin bliss balls with carob.
I really believe that a kids' party food doesn't have to be unhealthy to be enjoyed. And it proved it right today.
happy birthday, my little princess!

lunch one day

just posting what we had for lunch...

making every meals fresh would be ideal but sometimes it is just not possible.

great to have some leftovers to make a new excting dish!

I madea quick stir fry with leftover brown rice from the night before. mixed with rocket, steamed pumpkin, arame and walnuts.
add a drizzle of flexseed oil before serving.
yummm!
extra grain is handy to have in the fridge for a quick nutritious meal. make sure to put it in the fridge as the cooked grains do not last as long as some may think.

shopping at ceres

just came back from ceres wednesday market. look at these beautiful greens!!!
it has been such a warm spring day today and that's proberbly why I am attracted to more towards leafy vegetables.
they have light upward energy that's perfect for this weather.
now that it is getting warmer, it's time to adjust your cooking method for your meals too. lighter seasonings and quicker, lighter cooking style is more appripriate.
Mmmmmm.... what shall I make for lunch today.. stir fry greens with sticky garlic tamari sauce... or maybe tahini tamari sauce... yum!!!
Oh, when you buy root vegetables with leaves attached, make sure to separate them before storing to prolong their freshness.

1st day of spring

Today is officially the first day of spring! However it still feels a bit cold.
have a look around though. there are so many delightful signs that the spring has been here for a while. cherry blossoms, scent of fresh jasmine, my apricot tree blossoms....... desire to eat lighter greens and a bit more fresh fruits always tells me the transitional time from winter to spring.
it is also a fregile time for the body.
look after yourself.
